Thing #13



Morning yoga. Kellie and I started doing yoga in the mornings (and a lot of evenings, too) in 2012 at Amrita in Fishtown. It was our home away from home for 2 and half years. At times, we were there so much we felt slightly conspicuous and a little ashamed of ourselves. But what can we say, we were in love.

Once we were safely settled into life in Botswana, we started doing yoga in our host mom’s driveway in Serowe in the mornings before our training classes. From there it became the daily 5:15am class before work in Kanye (we have to be at work at 7:30am and my walk is 40 minutes). Also, it’s pretty hot here most of the year. Earlier is better. Expect in the winter, when earlier is dark and cold.

All of our sequences are flow-based and homegrown, inspired by our favorite teachers from Amrita. And, on most mornings, the sun rises into the sky at some point during class. For anyone who’s interested, here is my favorite:
